Acer palmatum 'Twombly's Red Sentinel' is a moderate-growing broadleaf deciduous tree with burgundy and red foliage. Flowers are not showy, but nurture a healthy ecosystem as wildlife habitat. Attracts bees, beneficial insects and birds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and even moisture - regular water. Does well in average, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something humidity tolerant.

Twombly's Red Sentinel Japanese Maple is a columnar shaped red leafed variety. It is an upright tree that will remain fairly narrow for compared to its height. Fall colors are brilliant red with orange hues.

Twombly's Red Sentinel (also often spelled Twombley's) is a narrow Japanese Maple variety growing up to 15-20 feet tall but only 4-5 feet wide, forming a dense columnar tree. It is very similar to Bloodgood in color and has dark red leaves through the year with orange hues developing in the fall but seems to be faster growing and develops a thicker trunk on shorter trees. Because of its narrow habit is one of the few full-height Japanese Maple varieties that fits well in smaller landscapes. Twombly's Red Sentinel is now frequently used in Japanese Gardens where it is placed in a corner and the branches are pruned in a layered shelf form, creating a traditional flowing water style.
