Woodwardia unigemmata produces long, red fronds with a lustrous, metallic sheen that slowly turn to green with age. The large fronds are naturally arching and can cover a lot of ground with fronds 3-6 feet long! Small baby ferns are produced at the leaf tips. Hardy in coastal BC planted in protected microclimates such as up against the house or under the branches of coniferous trees. Provide a winter mulch to be safe. In colder zones, it can make an amazing pot specimen that you overwinter in a cool room, a sunroom, or a greenhouse.

(CHINESE CHAIN FERN) The 3’ fronds on this beauty emerge in glowing hues of copper, pink or red slowly aging to a rich shade of green. Arching fronds are semi-evergreen and when mature can grow baby ferns at their tips. Plants are about 2’high and eventually 5-6’wide and specimen quality. Light to moderate shade, rich, well drained, moist soils produce the best looking plants. Mulch crowns for winter in colder areas. Deer resistant. USDA Z8(7b)-10 4” pot

Exhilarating copper-pink to orange-red new fronds become green, grand, and arching. They terminate in what's called a "gemma" (a new plant start), that, touching the ground, roots to create another plant. This is one intriguing, giant fern from China, 3' T, 7' W and semi-evergreen here in the Pacific Northwest. Minimum temperature: 0?F
