Love bloomiferous perennials but don’t want to water? This popular introduction from the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden is a super easy, tough, floriferous catch of a plant! 'De La Mina' abides drought, deer, ravenous butterflies & also thrives in a range of soils, from sandy to clay. It also blooms heavily YEAR ROUND with 1” clusters of fragrant, lavender-blue flowers that are darker than those typical of the regular species. 'De La Mina' makes a dense 3' x 3' mound. Avoid growing the plant in swampy-wet areas. We owe this plant’s discovery to Horticulturist Carol Bornstein, who selected this individual on Cedros Island off the West coast of Baja California. Thanks Carol!

Info

Recent introduction from the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, selected on Cedros Island by Carol Bornstein. Plants form a tidy, handsome mound to 3' high with an equal spread. Deeply cut leaves are mid-green and held densely on the stems. Dark purple flowers on 8? stems form above the foliage most of the year in coastal California. Useful for dry borders and especially effective mixed with native Salvias. Plants have demonstrated surprising tolerance of heavy soils in a four-year old test planting. Attractive to butterflies. Hardy to 20F. Baja California.
