Climbing hydrangeas do not do well in the heat of the SE. But Schizophragmas love it here. Try this one with white flowers that fade to a deep crimson. Wonderful!!

A great choice for partial shade where it will still grow well and flower well. It even tolerates deep shade. This selection has lovely shades of pink on the sepals and often rich red petioles. Possibly the best aspect is that it seems to flower the youngest of any of its cousins! Our experience shows Schizophragma is more vigorous than Hydrangea Petiolaris, but stays close to the surface on which it is grown. Self-clinging, too.

This vigorous climbing vine grows quickly climbing on a trellis or other structure. A hydrangea cousin, it has 8-10 inch wide florets of delicate pink hues abdh large heart shaped petals with red-colored bracts. Roseum can be grown in that north-side garden where other plants do not thrive. It needs rich, well draining soil but can take more sun than it's Moonlight brother. Foliage is green with an ever so slight red hue. This is a rare find so don't miss this beautiful introduction.

Rosea' displays a splendid form with interest in every aspect: rose-blushed bracts, mahogany stems, red-hued leaf petioles, and handsome dark green toothed foliage. Richly textured, each leaf is thick and leathery, and grows in an elongated heart shape. This climbing beauty will gracefully enliven a somber spot in your garden.

A climbing hydrangea cultivar noted for its showy pink, lace-cap flowers. The leaf petioles are a reddish-pink which is also nice. A good climbing or scrambling plant to add interest to the shade garden. Part shade, such as morning sun and out of direct summer sun is also a possible planting situation. With time growing to 30 ft high and 10 ft wide, though takes to pruning. Great climbing up a Doug Fir. Flowers in summer. Deciduous. USDA zone 5. Hydrangeaceae
