This New Zealand flax has pretty vertical stripes of pink and purple. We use P. 'Sundowner' in our containers with summer annuals.
This handsome and imposing 6-8' tall perennial has sword-shaped leaves that are bronze-green with a wide showy stripe of rose-pink! S/M-D/GDr
Phormiums have cornered the market on structure and drama, which is likely why they're so popular. 'Sundowner' is a large plant with erect, greyish burgundy leaves with hot pink highlights. Phormiums usually sail through our winters. However, the burgundy cultivars are generally hardier than the variegated ones. Grow in pots and bring indoors in colder climates.
New Zealand Flax is such an easy architectural specimen plant, and is amazing in containers in cold climate areas, but it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find on the east coast. 'Sundowner' has bright pink margins and bronze-green centers, overlaid with irregular copper-red markings. On older leaves the margins will fade to a cream color giving a multihued effect. Swordlike foliage can reach 3-4', but expect more compact 2' plants the first year. Easy to winter over in a cool sunroom or greenhouse. Keep plants on the dry side. shipping Qt. pots.
Strappy, evergreen leaves clump to 6-8' tall…upright foliage is a bronze green color and edged by prominent stripes of rose pink. These architectural plants make a great specimen in that special pot (will be smaller) or will speak volumes featured in a Mediterranean Garden! Often used as a spectacular seasonal annual in colder climates, these plants are hardy to about 15 degrees.
Upright, two to three inch bronze-green blades blushed with a purple hue, edged with pink. Sun.
Red leaves with dark stripes.
