The fruit from this vine is as deliciously alluring as its intricate & whimsical flowers. ‘Frederick’ is one of the hardiest of the Passifloras, surviving Winter wet & brief frosts (to 20 °F) with bravo, going semi-decidous! Takes heat well & enjoys a long growing season. All Passifloras have intriguing flowers but NOT all of them make edible fruit. In fact, some of them are toxic, especially when unripe! Before eating the fruit you need to wait until it darkens to purple & drops from the vine. You can leave the fruit to ripen further for a sweeter taste, or add sugar. Give it room! This vine wants to get quite big – 20’ or more in good soil.
