This will make a 6' x 6' shrub with deep green foliage year round. In spring and early summer (through July) the new foliage is deep purple.
Sometimes mistaken for holly, this rounded EG of dense bushy habit (to 10') has the added bonus of small fragrant white flowers in fall and new growth which is deep purple; hardier than the species. S-PSh/M
Evergreen shrub or small tree with green, holly-like leaves. Purple new growth is stunning in the spring and is the best in full sun. Plants will be more compact in brighter areas as well. Once established, tiny flowers show up in the fall and add fragrance to the garden. Will respond well to pruning, so makes a great hedge or screen. If left to grow naturally, it will make a nice multi-stemmed, small tree.
Young leaves are blackish purple & appear to be dipped in tar, the hardiest form.
New growth is deep purple, later becoming green. The mingling of the shades from deep green to purple into mid summer is especially attractive. Colors the best in full sun.

The only negative about this most excellent evergreen is that you can't eat it but then neither can those cloven-hoofed minions of Satan masquerading on this earthly plane as Bambi so its all good. Deep purple new growth, fragrant small flowers in fall, drought tolerant, very hardy.
New leaves begin dark purple and fade to dark green. Be surprised in the fall when fragrant small white flowers perfume the air. Evergreen screen to 10 feet tall.
