One of our favorite rarities here at “Annie’s,” it’s really like growing 3 plants in one. Beginning as a low dense spreading mat (to 12” across) of lovely small blue-grey rosettes, it soon forms a multitude of totally cool pinkish conical spires inspiring one to imagine a little elfin cityscape. In late Summer-Fall, the spires reach 6” tall, blossoming with pink & white frilly flowers much like a miniature “Tower of Jewels”. Charming! Ideal for containers, rock gardens & hey-fairy gardens! Will die after flowering but it self-sows & makes side rosettes to repeat its magic every year!

Orostachys iwarenge Another new-to-us species from Stan Tyson. Great glaucous foliage, and distinctive and beautiful flower spikes. Orostachys make a great hardy alternative to tender succulents like Echeveria for us in the frozen north. An inch or two tall, spreads indefinitely. Zones 5 (maybe hardier? Let us know if you experiment with it)

CHINESE DUNCE CAPS - A low dense spreading mat of small blue grey succulent rosettes from which pinkish conical spires grow up to 6" tall. In late summer the spires are covered with pink to white frilly flowers. Great for troughs, containers, rock gardens, fairy gardens. The rosettes spread creating the same display each year. Likes sun to part shade, well drained gritty soil. A great groundcover, drought tolerant. A interesting eye catching plant.
