No, this is NOT a candidate for Roundup! 2’ stems of rose pink, tubular flowers in whorls, July > August. Clumping foliage is armed and dangerous…but it’s deer proof!! This Himalayan Native prefers full sun, well drained soils and a couple of feet of space (doesn’t like crowds, so it needs its personal space).
An elegant plant (G. S. Thomas), fragrant throughout, with 6-8" thistle-like leaves and 2-3' stalks of showy whorled flowers opening white, changing to rose and finally crimson; wonderful in border or dried bouquet. S/M/GDr
Whorls of pendent, narrowly tubular white flowers with bits of pink and flared openings cascade from 3' stems. Striking! Its prickly foliage has a decidedly fresh scent much like line-dried laundry! Clumps to 18" wide. Minimum temperature: 10 °F
A favorite Pakistani, this thistle mimic is pretty outrageous in the garden. Robust clumps of gently spiny leaves and taller stems bejeweled in rank upon rank of long tubed flaring corolla light pink flushed white flowers. Good long bloom period. Best in fertile soil that drains well.
Spikes of waxy white to pink flowers.
