Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A delightful tree for small gardens, courtyards or any other place a small tree is needed, this columnar Magnolia will reach 20' tall but only 6' wide! Lighty-fragrant, butter-yellow blooms appear later than most (avoiding the worst frost damage) extending the spring flush of Magnolias just a bit. S/M
Two magnolias unequivocally distinguish the productive plant breeding career of the late Dr. August Kehr; 'Daybreak' and this one. Unique among magnolia hybrids, it is the only strongly columnar cultivar we know. Flowering late, its blooms are less susceptible to freeze injury, are slightly fragrant and a pleasant yellow color. With the popularity of yellow magnolias now, there are simply too many to choose from, so we suggest this on along with 'Elizabeth', 'Goldstar', 'Butterflies' and 'Yellow Bird' as among the best.
Sunspire Magnolia has two outstanding characteristics that set it apart from all others. It's growth habit is narrow and upright with all branches ascending. This creates a fastigate tree that will eventually reach 25' tall but be only 6' wide?ideal for small gardens and narrow spaces. In addition it has the best yellow flowers of any magnolia on the market(as voted on by members of the Magnolia Society). It is a cross between Magnolia 'Woodsman' and Magnolia 'Elizabeth'.

Voted the best yellow magnolia by the Magnolia society members. With these parents it should be a strong grower. ('WOODSMAN' X 'ELIZABETH')

An upright growing magnolia that is almost columnar. This new (to us) magnolia is good for a narrow area such as a small garden or courtyard. The flowers are medium yellow and are flowering before the leaves appear.
