‘Gold Star’ is a deciduous hybrid magnolia noted for its pale yellow to butter yellow, frost tolerant flowers. It is a vigorous tree with an attractive, uniform, pyramidal shape. It will reach 20-30 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide. The upright, tulip-like to starry, yellow flowers are up to four inches across with up to 14 narrow tepals. They blooom before the leaves emerge in handsome bronze tones. For the 2025 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and about 1-2 feet tall.

The late Phil Savage (Phil died from West Nile complications) crossed magnolia acuminata 'Miss honeybee x magnolia stellata 'Rubra' to produced this wonderful plant, its fast growing, as much as 2' per year, with the habit of an open growing stellata. The 4? yellow star like flowers appear before the leaves, which unfurl bronze red, and change to green as they mature.
