Lomatia myricoides is a broadleaf evergreen shrub or tree with green foliage. In summer cream flowers emerge followed by green fruit. Attracts bees making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun and regular - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Does well in acidic, lean and well-drained soil.

Unusual protea relation from Australia, a handsome evergreen easily grown as a multi-stemmed shrub or trimmed as a small tree and reaching 8-10 ft and possibly to 15 ft over a long time. The leaves are abundant, long and narrow with edges that are widely toothed -- say bumpy -- creating an interesting texture. Blooms over a long period in summer, the clusters of fragrant, white flowers nestled amongst the leaves. Sun to part shade is best in well-drained soil. Avoid fertilizer as with all proteaceous plants. Somewhat drought tolerant but best with regular summer water. Frost hardy to 5F, mid USDA zone 7.

This rarely grown evergreen shrub comes from Australia. The Grivellia relative should be tender but our plant has withstood 0??F. The narrow foliage has jagged margins. The white flowers show up in small clusters with a vanilla scent in July and August. Note: Do not use chemical fertilizer, the plant will turn black and die within days. We found out the hard way.

A graceful thin-leaved evergreen shrub from Australia which is perfectly fine here in the mellower parts of the Puget Sound discounting of course the smiting of the 09 and 10 winters. A textural vase-shaped habit and the white clove scented flowers in midsummer - yum! No fertilizer - good drainage.
