Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An extremely long-blooming selection of Chinese Indigo, from May thru September, with racemes of deep magenta flowers. Makes a great backdrop for the Perennial border. A superb but rarely planted member of the pea family from China. Especially suited to dry sites but happy in most soils.

Chinese Indigo. A long blooming shrub (which can be pruned to a central leader and grown as a small 6-7' tree), bearing erect racemes of pink legume flowers, beginning in June and continuing through the summer, followed by dark purple seed pods. It prefers well drained soil and full sun, and is drought tolerant once established. If grown as a shrub it can reach 8' width.
Very tough and very beautiful deciduous Chinese Bush Indigo with rose flowers fading to white from May to first hard frost. Grows quickly to 5 ft wide and high, but can be kept much smaller through the growing season and even cut to the base in late winter for a refresh. It blooms on new wood, so it gets bonus points from us. Summer water to establish. Sun to part shade. Hardy to 10 below F.
This deciduous Chinese Indigo is one of the gems of the genus and is not at all ashamed to tell you all about it time and time again as it starts flowering in late spring and continues into fall. Nice delicate appearing Pea foliage with narrow erect racemes of pink flowers held above. Nice!
