This lovely fast-growing hybrid (with leaves from both glutinosa and lucida!) forms a compact 15-20' tree, more-than-happy to share the glorious crop of fragrant 1-2" white flowers which smother its slender branches in fall. S-PSh/M
A wonderful broadleaved evergreen from Chile with shiny green leaves, a columnar habit, and a blanket of nodding white flowers with a boss of golden stamens in mid to late summer. Grows to an eventual 15-20' high and 8' wide. Part shade to part sun is ideal with protection from wind in well-drained soil with regular summer water to establish. Leaves may burn at about 10 °F, but will quickly recover. Cold hardy to 5 °F, mid USDA zone 7.
Why don't we all have a Eucryphia in our gardens? Few trees compare to this narrow evergreen - just 8' wide when 20'+ tall and when in flower it's Swoon City. Impressive 2" white flowers are borne in abandon in early summer. This likes a cool root run but we don't get hot here.
Originating as a garden cross between the Tasmanian species E. lucida and the Chilean E. glutinosa, this beautiful tree sports dark green, glossy, evergreen leaves, which may be variously compound. In summer and early fall, a spectacular show of white flowers covers the tree over a long period! The flowers are rich in nectar and will attract beneficial bees from all over the neighborhood. Like most Eucryphias, a moist, sheltered spot is ideal, where it will grow vigorously into a loosely columnar tree to 30' or more. It will appreciate cool summers, and is perhaps the hardiest evergreen Eucryphia to cold, tolerating about 5 °F.
This evergreen small tree has glossy green foliage and white flowers in July – August. The 2” white flowers have a plume of stamens that are light yellow. The flowers have a honey fragrance. This plant needs good drainage, moisture, mild winters and cool summers, so we recommend not trying east of the Cascades.
