Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The profusion of lovely bell-shaped flowers which this cultivar produces are an especially showy red over white. The spring blooms make an incredible sight on this a lovely upright 6-8' shrub. It is a wonder again in autumn when the foliage turns every shade of yellow to red. PSh/M/Acid
An indispensable multi-season shrub, with spring blossoms, compact habit and amazing fall color, 'Red Bells' is a great companion plant for rhododendrons and spring shade perennials. Distinctive drooping clusters of red bells are born in mid-late spring, and the medium green foliage develops intense golden yellow to red tones in autumn. Plants are compact, growing rather slowly to 6-8' tall and up to 6' wide. Enkianthus is deer resistant, and enjoys an acidic soil enriched with humus and that has good drainage.
Creamy bell shaped flowers with red edges late spring. Fall red with orange on a tiered structure. Zones 6-8.
The cup-shaped flowers hang beautifully in clusters that show heavy red veining, making them look like, well, red bells! Superb red foliage in the fall. An excellent plant for year round color.

This deciduous Rhododendron relative from Japan is such a good ornamental. Late spring small reddish bells borne in profligate florality much to the delight of hummingbirds and honeybees. Fairly narrow growth habit and superb scarlet fall color if grown in ample sun.
The name describes the red rims of the otherwise cream-colored, bell-shaped flowers, but the real ornamental value of this shrub is its bold yellow, orange, and red fall color and its tiered habit, which is best appreciated in winter. Shade tolerant. GPP award. Grows slowly.
