Skip those short lived Dianthus you see in bloom all over the place at “box stores” & go for the ultimate cottage garden “Pink!” Why? Because it lives for years & doesn’t rot in our temperate rainy Winters. It’ll quickly spread, forming a pretty low growing & weed suppressing dense groundcover to 3’ across. Bursting into a mass of spicy scented blooms in Spring, each 10” to 12” branching stem is topped with a 1.5” bloom, choice for cutting. With deadheading, “Cheddar Pinks” will continue blooming till Summer’s end. Cut back to 1” tall in Fall & side dress with compost each Spring for a spectacular replay. Just the best for trailing over the edge of a stone-edged bed, rock garden or container. Well-drained soil.
