Cotoneaster 'Hessei' is a broadleaf deciduous shrub with green foliage. In spring pink flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Features glossy texture. Attracts birds. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and regular water. Does well in acidic, alkaline and well-drained soil.

Re-discovered for its excellent garden performance, this handsome dense groundcover (18" tall x up to 5' wide) has shiny finely-textured foliage (red-purple in fall) and showy crops of small pink flowers and small bright red fruit. S/M
A cultivar of uncertain parental origin developed by H.A. Hesse of Weener, Germany, in the 1930s. The plant was introduced to the Chicagoland area by The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, in the 1950s. Unique characteristics include a compact spreading habit, delicate foliage, excellent disease and pest resistance, burgundy fall color, and good production of red fruit. Matures to 18" in height and spreads laterally to 3 to 5' from branches that root at the soil line.
