Abundant yellow summer flowers are pineapple-scented, attracting hummingbirds and bumblebees. Leaves are a silky, shimmery silver. Not phased by vigorous pruning, this may be grown as a small tree or shrub.

Argyrocytisus battandieri is a broadleaf semi-evergreen shrub or tree with blue and green foliage. In summer yellow flowers emerge. Features fuzzy texture. The pineapple broom is from Morocco. You would think tender, but no. Survived -12°F. this plant has been in the Willamette Valley over 50 years. Our big plant is 15' with multiple stems. The silver green foliage is very pretty let alone the short golden chains. Which are related to the golden chain tree. The flowers are pineapple scented in May.

Very different and very wonderful! This 12' shrub is covered with large silky haired trifoliate leaves and in mid-summer, a succession of large, bright-yellow, cone-shaped flower clusters that smell just like pineapple! The flowers are followed by 3" pea-like seed capsules which are covered in silver down. This is a truly unique beauty from the forests of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Our sources dried up for the pineapple broom over the years. All of a sudden we remembered that our original plant was grafted on Laburnum (golden chain). Anyway, this large shrub has gray green hairy leaves and short golden chains. The flowers have a pineapple scent in late spring. Has been hardy here to -12°.
