Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Little Lanterns' is a selection from the eastern counterpart to our BC native A. formosa. It is short in stature, but free with flowers. Numerous pendant flowers in shades of red and yellow cover the plant in late spring. This selection is consistently shorter in stature and more intense in colour than the species making it a better garden plant. Popular with hummingbirds. Tolerant of dry shade.
This is a new selection of our native, American Columbine, Aquilegia canadensis. Instead of the usual height of 2’ tall, 'Little Lanterns' grows to only 10” tall. A long blooming species, it bears from April thru June, many brilliant red flowers with a yellow corolla that dangle and sway in the breeze. Since it’s little, it would be cute in a pot or planted along a path or front of garden. Reseeds!
