White flowers spring. Fall foliage bright red-orange. Edible red-black berries . Hardy to USDA Zone 4
A Royal Horticulture Society Plant of Merit. A deciduous, early-flowering large shrub or small trees with showy, slightly fragrant white blooms in drooping clusters called racemes which appear before the leaves emerge. Oval cut leaves are bluish-green 2-5" long and change to brilliant orange-red in Fall (hence the name). Flowers are followed by green berries which turn red, then dark purplish black in early summer. The edible berries resemble blueberries. Particularly effective in the woodland border or against a dark background.

The usual mass of fleeting white flowers in early spring and edible berries in June on a multistemmed small tree. What sets this cultivar apart is its fall color: a brilliant red that carries for miles. A vigorous grower.
