Striking burgundy-chocolate brown ferny foliage keeps its color summer into fall, even in the heat and humidity of the Southeast; a beautiful airy small tree (to 15't x 20'w), with its fuzzy soft-pink summer flowers it is a standout in the landscape! S/M-D/GDr PP13822

is a moderate growing 20'x 20' silk tree. Our plant seems to have grown slowly to 15'. The leaves are deep rich burgundy all summer. Makes an attractive open tree that can be planted under very thin shade.

Deciduous tree with a lovely, arching vase-shaped habit and domed canopy. Fern-like, compound foliage emerges green in the spring, changes to a dark red, then by the summer is reddish-bronze to chocolate brown. Fuzzy pinkish and white flowers show up in late summer and transform into flat seed pods in the fall that persist into winter. Drought resistant once established, as well as tolerant to some salt spray. Growth Rate fast, 12"+ annually

With its striking burgundy foliage, this much sought-after small tree always turns heads. The leaves emerge green in spring, but quickly become reddish-purple in the sun. Growing quickly to 20 ft., it is even more wide spreading than the species. Unlike the leaves, the flowers remain the light pink color of the species, and contrast nicely with the dark red foliage. 'Summer Chocolate' fills a niche for a purple-leafed plant that will not turn green or succumb to intense summer heat and humidity in the South, yet also tolerates the high pH soils, low humidity, and intense sunlight of Southern California. Order early to reserve yours.

Leaves emerge green and quickly turn a fantastic chocolate brown that is outstanding in the landscape. Fuzzy pink flowers in the summer add even more interest. A small tree of 15 - 20 foot tall.

A fast growing small tree with fine textured burgundy-bronze foliage and puffy pink flowers in summer. It does very well in the southern states despite summer heat and humidity, and makes a stunning container subject in colder climates. We have successfully wintered this over in southeastern MA (zone 6), by siting in a protected south facing spot in front of a stone wall, although it does get some dieback. We've also wintered 'Summer Chocolate' over in an unheated frost frame without any problem. 1-2' spring shipping size.
