Bronze Beauty Ajuga is a slow-growing, spreading perennial ground cover with deep blue flower spikes and burgundy bronze foliage. An extremely hardy groundcover that forms a dense mat. Bronze Beauty Ajuga thrives under tree and shrub canopies. Great for defining paths. Ideal for foliage contrast in containers. Deer and rabbit resistant.

Ajuga is really one of our favorite ground cover plants. The foliage is very dense and keeps the weeds out, plus the foliage has a wonderful deep bronze color. It is also one of the earliest perennial plants to flower in the spring, usually in early April. The plants send up small spikes in March which feature purple-tinted leaves and pretty on their own. By April, flowers suddenly explode out from between the purple-tinted leaves and persist for a month or so before the petals start to drop off. The flower spikes are still quite attractive after the petals drop and take on a deep purple-green color to last into mid-summer.

These plants spread similar to strawberries, however they are quite easy to manage. We have ours planted right up against a walkway and a lawn and it has never spread through either - stepping on the rooting stems prevents growth and mowing the grass has prevented any from growing past as well.

Ajuga reptans ‘Bronze Beauty’ has attractive, reddish-bronze foliage which contrasts excellently with the intense purple-blue flowers. Bugleweed is very deer resistant. Thrives in any type of soil but not too dry. Bronze Beauty Ajuga is often used as a groundcover and is also useful for erosion control. Excellent for edging and rock gardens.

This vigorous selection spreads quickly by rhizomes and seems in some areas to be deer-resistant. Blue flowers are held above the bronzy foliage. Reaches 4-6" tall and spreads 8-12".
