Large, conspicuously marbled, deeply cut leaves display a remarkable show of seasonal colors. In spring, lime veins contrast with white and pink backgrounds. In summer, leaves gradually change to reddish veins against purple-red backgrounds. Fall finishes
A lovely small tree is highly prized for its ever-changing colors and elegant gracefully-arching habit. This exquisite 6-10' maple features long, finely cut leaves which open pale orange-pink with very distinct yellow-green veins and mellows to soft green for summer. Autumn finds it set aglow with rich red-veins set on orange to purple-red. This makes a magnificent color spot for accent or specimen. PSh-Sh/M
Ariadne Japanese Maple has deeply cut leaves that appear in striking new growth of marbled pastel shades like pink and orange with yellow-green veins. Foliage becomes red veined in summer. Fall colors are red, pink and orange while the veins remain green. Ariadne Japanese Maple makes a striking contrast to other plants with yellow or green foliage.
Another one of my favorites [Sam]. Ariadne is the perfect maple for a smaller, partial-shade garden. Placement in either a Northern or Eastern location would be best to show its pastel colors or a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade. A relatively slow growing maple may reach 6′ high and 4′ wide in 10 years. The leaves are reticulated with colors of rose, pink, lavender, yellow and light green. In the fall the leaves change to a hot pink before evolving to crimson. Reticulation is a term used to describe the veins that are visible on a leaf. Developed in the Netherlands, ‘Ariadne’ is the name of the nurseryman’s granddaughter. A collector’s must. Once established this cultivar is hardy to USDA zone 6.

The new growth on this variety is really striking! Yellow-green veining on a light orange-pink-red marbled background. the leaf color gradually changes to become red veined on the purplish red background by late summer. Fall will bring another rainbow of yellow, orange, and red.
Spring leaves open soft orange-pink-red with a marbled background. Yellow-green veining provides a striking contrast. Leaves mature into red veined with purple-red background. In fall, leaves return to spring coloration with dark-pink/red margins.
Spring orange-pink leaves mature to reddish purple over. green, Fall brings orange-pink-red tones. Zones 5-8.
Ariadne is one of those spring reticulations that make you gasp in awe at the beauty. Unfortunately, by mid summer, it is pretty much gone. Fall sees something of a comeback, but the question is: will a picture of the spring color make you want the plant. It did me.
MATSUMURAE, green. This fashionista is on top of every season with some eye catching feature. Leaves emerge, with copious silver hairs over cream with pink margins. They then mature through pink and red colorations to dark green with a red to burgundy flush. Ariadne then heralds the fall with yellow to red fall foliage contrasting her dark stems. A lovely addition to our selection. Can you keep up with her costume changes?
