Manihot grahamii plant details

An exquisite foliage plant that should be offered far more often than it is. Shapely palmate leaves have a fascinating silhouette unlike any other, and the pinkish stems are a bonus. A fast grower that may become a small evergreen tree up to 20' without frost, or die back and come back as a deciduous shrub in cooler climates. Really wonderful.

Manihot grahamii is a fast-growing broadleaf semi-evergreen perennial shrub with green foliage. In summer chartreuse and green flowers emerge. Attracts bees making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - dappled shade and regular water. Does well in rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something humidity tolerant.

Nursery contributed plant descriptions

I love the delicately cut leaves of this fast-growing tree. They remind me of fireworks explosions. The shadow patterns they make as the sun filters through them is quite nice & the purple-pink stems are an added plus. A very easy shrub or small tree, it grows several feet in 1 year & is drought tolerant to boot. In my zone 9 garden, it freezes back a little each winter but re-sprouts in Spring & grows with increased vigor. Can grow to 20’ & stays evergreen in zones 10 + 11. The flowers are quite pretty too-clusters of greenish bells bloom in Summer & are loved by bees. Native to Brazil. Can reseed around a bit. Note: Parts of this plant are poisonous.
