Found as a witches'-broom on 'Bloodgood' with distinctively longer leaves. Each lobe is ovate with a long, pointed tip. Leaves first emerge bright red turning dark, purple red as the season progresses. Like its parent, it holds its color well into fall. Photo taken in late October. The larger sized trees are well developed and very full.
'Skeeter's Broom' originated from a witches' broom on Bloodgood. It was found and named by Edward "Skeeter" Rodd of Raraflora Nursery in Pennsyvania. Like its parent plant, Skeeter's Broom holds its red color well changing to a purple-red in summer. Its twiggy and upright habit may reach 6 feet, making a perfect addition to any garden.
This is a tight, upright, vigorous broom of Bloodgood.
DWARF, red. A sport of 'Bloodgood', the new growth on this Witches Broom starts out bright red. As the seasons change, it progresses from burgundy to green, and finally, to a rich bronze. Leaves are deeply lanced.
