Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Excellent for foundation or small hedge, this graceful 3-5' evergreen has narrow recurved leaves and clusters of soft-yellow, fragrant flowers followed by red-changing-to-black fruit. S/M
People always see this barberry and ask what it is and want it. Berberis replicata has narrow dark evergreen foliage. The new foliage is rich purple as a highlight all summer over the green mature leaves. Our plant is 10’x 9' after 20 years, has been hardy to 0° F. and survived a flood of 3' in 1996. A really tough plant.
Spiny, narrow, evergreen leaves that are sporadically blushed copper or red characterize this large, rounded shrub. It can form a good-looking screen or formidable barrier! Small, fragrant, pale yellow flowers bloom in late spring followed by oblong red then purple-black berries. It's found commonly in Yunnan province, China, on mountainous slopes and thickets. Poor soil is no challenge.
