Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Soft, purple, daisy-like flowers with yellow centers bloom for months on this optimistic, hard-working perennial . Against the blue-green leaves, and in morning and evening, it veritably glows! Perfect for the rock garden, sunny path-side, or parking strip. It's happy at the coast and tolerates valley clay. 2' x 2'Minimum temperature: -20°F
Similar to E. glaucus but with larger leaves packed more densely in basal rosettes. Flower stems are branched, rising in summer and bearing large lavender flowers with yellow centers. Better choice for warmer inland climates than other glaucus cultivars. Hardy to 10F.
When Dr. Gordon Frankie, bee expert of renown, dropped a few of these plants off at the nursery, & told us that it was a superb plant for attracting native bees, we set our busy-bee selves to work propagating more. After all, it's not just a long blooming, easy to grow, drought tolerant, super-tough perennial, & fabulous habitat plant, it also honors the legendary Californian plantsman Wayne Roderick, who passed away in 2003. This plant is just one of his innumerable contributions to botany & horticulture! Grows to 1' high, up to 3' wide, & bears its yellow-centered, lavender-blue blooms in every season but Winter. Some Summer water improves the plant's appearance. Tolerates clay, salt spray, wind, & deer. Attracts bees & butterflies!
