Every garden needs this absolutely gorgeous pink-flowering shrub! This delightful and adaptable garden hybrid becomes a 6-8' shrub which repeat blooms to produce its fluffy, clear-pink flowers from summer into fall. This variety can tolerate summer water and is especially lovely in a border or trained against a wall where its reddish stems can really shine. S/M-D/GDr
The heritage of this versatile hybrid is uncertain, but her reputation as a flirty, long blooming semi-evergreen is widespread. Amid speculation about an additional cross between x delileanus and the eastern species, Ceanothus ovatus, 'Marie Simon' is not adversely affected by summer watering, which is unusual for a Ceanothus. Try planting her in the mixed border, where she flaunts a decidedly feminine display of fluffy rose-pink panicles and ornamental red seed capsules cushioned by wine-colored stems and long, serrated leaves.
This semi-decidous ceanothus will grow into a lovely moderately sized shrub of about 3'-6'. Ceanothus Marie Simon unlike other varieties makes a lovely display of pink fluffy flower clusters that bloom mid to late summer & into the fall. Responds well to a hard pruning while dormant. Attracts all sorts of wildlife. x pallidus is a group allegedly resulting from the further crossing of x delilianus with Ceanothus ovatus, an eastern species.
Deciduous (or partially so in coastal California) and bushy, growing 5' by 5' with green, broadly oval leaves and wine-red young stems. Conical clusters of soft-pink flowers are carried in profusion from mid-summer to early autumn. Hardy to 5F.
Ceaonothus - California are handsome evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs and small trees that herald the coming of spring. They're easy, fast, tolerate drought and salt spray. The hybrid, Marie Simon is semi-evergreen and very long blooming - June through October.. While drought tolerant, it's happy to be planted in heavily watered areas as well, provided drainage is good. With panicles of fluffy, rose-pink blooms (lighter in hot weather) supported by reddish stems, it's a delight from spring through

A hybrid that shares parentage with some of our native Ceanothis, Ms.“Marie” makes a lovely display of pink (yes, pink!) fluffy flower clusters that bloom in summer & again in Fall. The plant is also deciduous – another strange thing for a Ceanothus, & has showy red stems that remain attractive when the leaves are gone. It’s a lovely shrub, & will be long lived provided that you don’t keep it on a regular watering schedule. Less water means a slower growing, but much longer lived plant! Over time ‘Marie’ will reach a height & width of 6-8’. Tolerant of part shade, poor soil, deer, drought, full sun, & etcetera.
