It&#039;s springy.\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-96613\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-96613'>\n\t\t\t\tSeriously mat forming Azorella trifurcata. It&#8217;s springy.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>1. Azorella is REALLY one of my favorites. It&#8217;s so springy when you touch. And though it looks prickly, it doesn&#8217;t bite at all.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96485\" aria-describedby=\"figcaption_attachment_96485\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" itemprop=\"contentURL\" class=\"size-full wp-image-96485\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08142731\/Sempervivum-Bolax-Azorella-trifurcata.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3607\" height=\"3024\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_96485\" class=\"wp-caption-text\" itemprop=\"description\">Sempervivum, Arorella trifurcata, and no i.d. Grass<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. And aren&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/search\/#\/genus=Sempervivum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sempervivums<\/a> the best. They grow darn near everywhere and mingle nicely. I always mean to keep track of which is which. But I do not.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. Hakonechloa aka Japanese Forest Grass<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96384\" aria-describedby=\"figcaption_attachment_96384\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" itemprop=\"contentURL\" class=\"size-full wp-image-96384\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08142733\/7A110669-BAE5-4E83-9885-8EA9AF296DBA_1_201_a.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_96384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\" itemprop=\"description\"><a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/289\/hakonechloa-macra-aureola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hakonechloa macra &#8216;Aureola&#8217;<\/a> aka Golden Japanese Forest Grass<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Japanese Forest Grass is fabulous as it fades too.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96385\" aria-describedby=\"figcaption_attachment_96385\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" itemprop=\"contentURL\" class=\"size-full wp-image-96385\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/08142733\/43DC0154-07A9-4B6A-8A0D-41096A606F01_1_201_a.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_96385\" class=\"wp-caption-text\" itemprop=\"description\">Hakonechloa macra &#8216;Aureola&#8217; fading into winder&#8211;and still looking grand<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t remember a lot of ornamental grasses in peeps gardens as a kid, but sure glad we see them now. So luscious. When they wave their little blade hands in the air, positively swoon-worthy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4. Then Black Mondo Grass. LOVE this one too. You can tuck it in anywhere. It forms a nice colony. Lake Oswego, OR garden. Alas, she and her husband have moved to the Oregon Coast and started a brand new garden. Gail was kind enough to share many plants&#8211;and pottery&#8211;from her garden before she moved. Plant lusters all over the area are now enjoying a a bit of Gail&#8217;s former delights. Another Ophiopogon that I love love love, and have had great success with is O. &#8216;Pamela Harper&#8217;. She seems happy here, there, anywhere&#8211;with a little shade and occasional water.
