They can be so easy to please, as long as you know a little about their style. Miniature roses for the cactus lover would be a miss (but the cactus called <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/15513\/trichodiadema-densum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">miniature desert rose<\/a> could do the trick). But when you&#8217;re talking about people who are happy playing in the dirt, you get to skip the mall, and never even change out of your muck boots if you don&#8217;t want.<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite presents I ever received was a piece of bark. Let me explain.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8771\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/01145214\/magnolia-seed-pods.jpg\" alt=\"magnolia seed pods\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/01145214\/magnolia-seed-pods.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/01145214\/magnolia-seed-pods-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9127\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/01145006\/IMG_7783.jpg\" alt=\"bark tray with rocks\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/01145006\/IMG_7783.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/01145006\/IMG_7783-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the 18&#8243; strip of curved bark first arrived (5?) years ago, it was a miniature succulent garden, with 2&#8243; nursery pots of <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/genus\/haworthia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haworthia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/genus\/stapelia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stapelia, and <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/genus\/lithops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lithops<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/genus\/stapelia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The orange plastic pots were completely disguised, nestled in among Spanish moss, topped with twigs, <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/search\/#\/genus=Tillandsia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tillandsias<\/a> and sparkly baubles. You&#8217;ll have to use your imagination, because the originals have moved on to the compost bin, thanks to my limited houseplant nurturing qualities. Fortunately the structure lends itself to swapping out and rearranging. There always seems to be some new (to me) variety to love.
