Many a time, I have said, &#8220;pppffffftttttt, flowers, they don&#8217;t do much for me. I like leaves!&#8221; And what am I doing now? Screeching to a stop to go photograph and pet the blooms on the grasses. Nothing makes me lament my shady lot quite as much as seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/featured\/8\/grasses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">glorious grasses<\/a> in full bloom, dancing around in the sun.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7669\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/01145801\/Pennisetum-macrourum-from-scott-weber-2.jpg\" alt=\"Pennisetum macrourum from scott weber 2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/01145801\/Pennisetum-macrourum-from-scott-weber-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/01145801\/Pennisetum-macrourum-from-scott-weber-2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At least I get vicarious pleasure from <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/blog\/author\/Patricia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patricia&#8217;s garden<\/a> often and see how amazing and happy grasses can be. It&#8217;s hard to imagine that her front yard was <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/blog\/gardens\/fka-the-sea-of-juniper-sneak-peek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a blank slate<\/a> in April. The grasses, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhonestreetgardens.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scott Weber&#8217;s<\/a> garden, I believe, make such an impact. The bloom, like a cat-tail with a crew cut, belongs to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.missouribotanicalgarden.org\/PlantFinder\/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=295320&amp;isprofile=0&amp;ispro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennisetum macrourum <\/a>. I can&#8217;t help but love it. There&#8217;s no denying it makes an impact.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-imagvere-7683\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/01145750\/IMG_5345.jpg\" alt=\"Cortaderia \" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I just love <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/genus\/hakonechloa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hakonechloa, aka Forest Grass<\/a>, and the good news is, it&#8217;ll grow in the dappled shade I have to offer it. The bad news is, the darn dog thinks it&#8217;s delicious. So I admire from a distance. Interesting planting triumphs over metropolitan planters&#8217; tendency to plant neat rows of color spots. So light and silky and always waving in the breeze.
