Those of us who grew up here are always rooting for the white stuff. It creates a magical world that we rarely\u00a0see. Some even\u00a0have a strict snow policy, and I&#8217;m all for it. People who move here from snowier parts of the country often\u00a0have trouble letting us enjoy our fleeting glimpse of snowflakes. We&#8217;re glad to have you, especially if you garden. Now it seems that&#8217;s been replaced&#8211;during this longer than usual rainless\u00a0summer&#8211;by &#8220;rain on the valley floor.&#8221; Dear dog, what a long dry stretch we&#8217;ve had. And I know it&#8217;s been awful in every which way all around the country, indeed around the world, but I ain&#8217;t no stinkin&#8217; monument to justice. I live here. I need rain here. And if this winter, we could see a dusting of snow,\u00a0that&#8217;d be a fabulous bonus. They all survived. I still haven&#8217;t decided where to plant this Schefflera, but I&#8217;ll get there. I talked to Sean Hogan of Cistus at the <a title=\"HPSO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hardyplantsociety.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">HPSO<\/a> fall sale last weekend, and he told me it can take more light than he originally thought.
