Today I’m passing through Dar Es Salaam on the coast of Tanzania before proceeding to a remote camp in the morning.<\/p>\n

Through sheer luck, the hotel we are at is next door to a botanical garden, which I couldn’t wait to share.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Dar Es Salaam is a tropical city south of the equator, and temperatures are generally in the 70s during the day, 60s at night, with ample rain. The garden, as you might expect, is an incredible mix of plants and trees on steroids.<\/p>\n

And home to the biggest snail I’ve ever seen.<\/p>\n

The man who runs the garden was wonderfully gracious host, teaching us the Swahili names for the plants, telling us about the medicinal uses, and enthusiastically plucking and sharing fruit from the trees.<\/p>\n

It was magical.<\/p>\n
