I love it when a garden matches its building. It&#8217;s an excellent sign of things to come that the garden looks this good during the winter while the plants are young. This is going to be a year round garden, all evergreens and succulents. I&#8217;m looking forward to watching this one grow.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nThe yuccas (filamentosa?) look like they&#8217;ve been here a while. I&#8217;m glad they were saved. The color palette here is so good. The red, the gold, the muted greens of the plants, really nice. Metapanax (delavayi?), Trachycarpus (fortunei?), and Schefflera delavayi. A repeating theme of opuntias and evergreen shrubs. Sage like leaves with Leonotis type flower remains? I&#8217;m stumped but intrigued.<br \/>\nUpdate: Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/portlandtreetour.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Julie<\/a> The mystery is solved. This appears to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/12068\/phlomis-aurea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phlomis aurea.<\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2979\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155349\/gold-leaved-plant.jpg\" alt=\"gold leaved plant\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155349\/gold-leaved-plant.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155349\/gold-leaved-plant-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It made me smile to see a telltale plant tag from <a href=\"https:\/\/cistus.com\/\">Cistus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2984\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155345\/opuntia-with-cistus-tag.jpg\" alt=\"opuntia with cistus tag\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155345\/opuntia-with-cistus-tag.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155345\/opuntia-with-cistus-tag-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The back yard wasn&#8217;t left out. It has an inviting secret garden thing going, especially with that wrought iron gate. It&#8217;s a bit of a shadier palette but still planted with solid evergreen choices. Cast iron plants don&#8217;t get used in the ground often enough, in my opinion. They take on such a nice round almost agave like shape when they&#8217;re established.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2973\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155353\/back-yards.jpg\" alt=\"back yards\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155353\/back-yards.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/01155353\/back-yards-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The sunny butterscotch paint color is just as great as the plants.
