It doesn&#8217;t snow here often.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In celebration of the MLK weekend\u00a0and the mild weather, <a href=\"https:\/\/historicmotorprints.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill<\/a> and I\u00a0went to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lansugarden.org\/about-the-garden\/plants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lan Su Chinese Garden<\/a>. We were happy to treat a visiting Sacramento couple with our season pass plus one feature. It&#8217;s only the\u00a0second time we&#8217;ve used it, and we&#8217;ve had our passes for years. Welcome to Portland. (I can always take a friend if you&#8217;re rarin&#8217; to visit Lan Su.)<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, it was colder late afternoon that I&#8217;d envisioned. But still sunny and beautiful. Watching the Koi is a supremely\u00a0peaceful experience, isn&#8217;t. And there was a little lady in the premium spot for getting a good snap. It didn&#8217;t seem right to push her out of the way, so I did my best with the space I had. Sarcococca. But don&#8217;t ask me to spell it.\u00a0That name challenges me every time. And the fragrance is heaven scent!<\/p>\n<p>I like saying\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/611\/sambucus-nigra-black-beauty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sambucus<\/a> too, but sorry, no picture with this post. Sambucus is the moniker that got me thinking I could actually learn some Latin plant names. Megan taught me. I know a few, but for the most part, I&#8217;m as confused about ferns as I am about conifers. So so many of them. I need to learn more, and I mean to. Seriously.<\/p>\n<p>In local news, <a href=\"https:\/\/xeraplants.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xera Nursery<\/a> is opening its retail shop on January 20th. And <a href=\"https:\/\/cistus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cistus Nursery<\/a> on Sauvie Island has been open all along.\u00a0Cistus is always a\u00a0fun field trip, scenic and generally with\u00a0good bird viewing along the way.
