Since she&#8217;d previously asked about my &#8220;candy tomatoes&#8221; &#8212; a reference to the fact\u00a0everyone was eating them like candy at the\u00a0open garden last August &#8212; I thought I&#8217;d share\u00a0what I&#8217;m growing this year.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I think of this area\u00a0as my veggie garden, but\u00a0that&#8217;s not a good description\u00a0anymore &#8212; since\u00a0there are several\u00a0fruiting plants mixed in with the veggies.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083319\/overall-east.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10911\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083319\/overall-east.jpg\" alt=\"overall east\" width=\"1024\" height=\"759\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083319\/overall-east.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083319\/overall-east-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing the odd trellis is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/21391\/passiflora-incarnata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Passiflora incarnata<\/a>, next to it is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/42211\/brazelberries-raspberry-shortcake-dwarf-thornless-raspberry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raspberry Shortcake\u2122 BrazelBerry <\/a>I bought last year.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083735\/rasp-ripe.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10915\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083735\/rasp-ripe.jpg\" alt=\"rasp ripe\" width=\"886\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083735\/rasp-ripe.jpg 886w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083735\/rasp-ripe-259x300.jpg 259w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 886px) 100vw, 886px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Compact, thorn-less and producing abundant fruit (unripe fruit shown\u00a0mid-May) it&#8217;s a winner. I\u00a0hesitated to make the purchase (for months) because of the price (around $30 for what I think was a 2-gallon) I&#8217;m glad I splurged &#8212; it&#8217;s that good!<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083838\/rasp-unripe.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10916\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083838\/rasp-unripe.jpg\" alt=\"rasp unripe\" width=\"1024\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083838\/rasp-unripe.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083838\/rasp-unripe-300x234.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This year the fine folks at Fall Creek (breeders of the BrazelBerry Collection) contacted me to\u00a0ask if I&#8217;d be interested in trialing a few of their other\u00a0plants, of course I said yes! They sent another\u00a0\u00a0Raspberry Shortcake\u2122 \u00a0in\u00a0the mix. Yay &#8212; one is not enough! It&#8217;s small, but has already put on a lot of growth from when I received it mid-May.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083635\/rasp-little.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10914\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083635\/rasp-little.jpg\" alt=\"rasp little\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083635\/rasp-little.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083635\/rasp-little-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To be honest the condition the plants arrived in (poor packing, these folks are wholesalers and thus not versed in shipping small quantities) had me concerned they&#8217;d even make it, but plants are tough! In the box with the raspberry were a\u00a0Baby Cakes\u2122 Blackberry (a thorn-less blackberry), <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/41043\/pink-icing-brazelberry-blueberry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pink Icing\u2122 Blueberry<\/a> (lovely pink foliage) and Perpetua\u2122 (a double-cropping blueberry).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083221\/new-fruit-plants.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10910\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083221\/new-fruit-plants.jpg\" alt=\"new fruit plants\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083221\/new-fruit-plants.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/21083221\/new-fruit-plants-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like a good gardener, I rotate my tomatoes (because I learned the hard way <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hachettebookgroup.com\/imprint\/timber-press\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how important it is<\/a>) so in this year&#8217;s\u00a0non-tomato stock tank there&#8217;s a crop of\u00a0zinnia and kale duking it out for supremacy. Why the odd mix? Well I had the zinnia seeds and no where to plant them. I figured this was a great place for them to get the care they&#8217;d need to thrive. This year they&#8217;re growing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leevalley.com\/en-us\/shop\/tools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">tomato spirals from Lee Valley<\/a>. Sungold is the one Patricia asked about, if you&#8217;re curious. Since then they&#8217;ve been sulking, although there are two small\u00a0Black Cherry fruit and one tiny Sungold.
