{"id":10321,"date":"2016-04-27T08:44:18","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T15:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogadmin.plantlust.com\/blog\/?p=10321"},"modified":"2024-01-24T07:41:56","modified_gmt":"2024-01-24T15:41:56","slug":"remembering-a-san-francisco-gem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/blog\/gardens\/remembering-a-san-francisco-gem\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering a San Francisco gem&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not sure why, but my mind has been wandering back to a few of the gardens I had the pleasure of visiting during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedangergarden.com\/search\/label\/Garden%20Bloggers%20Fling%202013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2013 Garden Bloggers Fling in San Francisco<\/a>. This one in particular stands out, it&#8217;s obviously a\u00a0garden created by a plant lover, plants are tucked in every available spot\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0containers line the steps,\u00a0epiphytes adorn the palm trunk &#8212; it&#8217;s a bit of heaven on earth. Of course the plant palette helps turn the lust meter up a notch or two as well.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nI remember chatting with a friend on the bus as we drove up this garden. He said my eyes got huge and I had a sort of &#8220;let me off this bus or else!&#8221; look. Thank goodness the bus stopped there, I didn&#8217;t have to resort to any drastic measures.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144330\/Nichols100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10324\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144330\/Nichols100.jpg\" alt=\"Nichols100\" width=\"846\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144330\/Nichols100.jpg 846w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144330\/Nichols100-247x300.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 846px) 100vw, 846px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This beautiful\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/50\/aloe-polyphylla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aloe polyphylla<\/a>\u00a0was growing right out next to the public sidewalk in the hellstrip. No biggie.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144328\/Nichols101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10325\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144328\/Nichols101.jpg\" alt=\"Nichols101\" width=\"858\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144328\/Nichols101.jpg 858w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144328\/Nichols101-251x300.jpg 251w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 858px) 100vw, 858px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh the temperate Bay Area climate. Where\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/plants\/4303\/agave-attenuata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agave attenuata<\/a>\u00a0doesn&#8217;t melt,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/search\/#\/raw=brugmansia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brugmansia<\/a>\u00a0grow to tree size and <a href=\"https:\/\/plantlust.com\/search\/#\/genus=Cordyline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cordylines<\/a> reach the roof-line of a tall two or three story home.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144327\/Nichols102.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10326\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144327\/Nichols102.jpg\" alt=\"Nichols102\" width=\"795\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144327\/Nichols102.jpg 795w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144327\/Nichols102-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And Bromeliads can be planted out, in the ground.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144326\/Nichols103.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10327\" src=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144326\/Nichols103.jpg\" alt=\"Nichols103\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144326\/Nichols103.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d17vsf20mehj1i.cloudfront.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/01144326\/Nichols103-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t even get me started on this!
