Descriptions of Mahonia eurybracteata 'Soft Caress'
Selected by plantsman Ozzie Johnson as a particularly silver and more frost hardy form of a most lovely species, this plant to about 4' tall with finely divided leaves appearing almost as a delicate palm. For dappled shade to full sun with at least occasional summer water where dry. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8a, though known to have come through an Atlanta, zone 7 winter with only scorching. PP 20183
We usually think of Mahonias as mean and spikey. This one will change everything. Soft Caress has a million uses- containers, companions, sun or shade, poor soil, rich compost. Yellow flower spikes in early spring. PP 20183
