We hope we have enough of this beautiful foliage plant. It's flowers are small (1 1/2") and are deep purple but it's the deep purple foliage in the spring-summer. Our 'Night Rider' is only 4' tall after 15 years and would make a handsome container plant. When we've had plants of C. 'Night Rider' available in the nursery or at sales they always sell out.

The "black" camellia, or nearly so, the semi-double flowers very dark red and darker on the undersides, appearing in late winter, early spring. New growth also has red overtones. An evergreen shrub, upright and somewhat compact, to only 4-5' tall and wide, this is a must have plant for any garden. Part shade with protection from the afternoon sun; in rich soil with regular summer moisture. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7. For those who love nomenclature, the parentage is a follows: a hybrid of C. x williamsii 'Ruby Bells' (= C. saluenensis x C. japonica 'Fuyajo') and C. japonica 'Kuro Tsubaki'.
