This popular Japanese selection has been slow to reach the US, so we are glad to help it along. The deer-resistant, deciduous, clumping Epimedium 'Tama-no-gempei' emerges in spring with attractive purple-tinted foliage. The first of the purple-and-white bicolor flowers are held just above the foliage, but rise higher, eventually to 16" tall. Seeing a mature clump will make you rethink the old adage about epimediums not being showy...splendid! (According to the International Nomenclature Code, the spelling should contain an "m" and not an "n".)
