This uncommon variety is a very easy to grow long lived perennial that produces crystalline deep purple flowers in mid-spring. The spurs on the intricate flowers are tipped in white. Flowers appear before the foliage which emerges a deep burgundy a perfect accompaniment to the flowers. To 1' tall in bloom it spreads to form moderate clumps in part shade to shade in rich soil with ample moisture. Undemanding and now bothered by pests.

We are delighted to again offer this hard-to-find selection of Epimedium grandiflorum from our friend Pierre Bennerup of Sunny Border, via Darrell Probst. Epimedium 'Pierre's Purple' features stunning, large purple flowers unlike any color we have seen on an epimedium. The flowers emerge just prior to the new foliage on this deciduous deer-resistant clumping selection.
