Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Fastigiata' - Columnar Japanese Plum Yew. Leaves are very long and dark green. Leaves radiate almost out at a 45° angle. Plant found about 1830. Very nice formal plant for a formal garden.

Very dark green leaves are evenly arranged in spirals around the stiff erect limbs of this of this narrow growing columnar shrub. The branches are strongly upright with few side branches. An excellent vertical accent that is generally easier to grow over a wide range than similar growing Yews or Podocarpus. Grows to 6-8' tall in ten years. Recommended by: Garden Clubs of America.

The 2-3" long leaves are black-green and spirally arranged on the stems. A rotund-columnar form of Japanese Plum Yew. Needs moist soil when young, then is drought tolerant. A deer-resistant substitute for Japanese Yew. (Note this is not a true Yew, but it's common name is Plum Yew.)
